Who we are

Adopt a Revolution supports civil self-organization against the Assad dictatorship and religious fanaticism. We strengthen projects that create perspectives for peace and work for a life in freedom and dignity.

Adopt a Revolution was launched in autumn 2011 by Syrian and German activists in the face of the continuing brutal persecution of the peaceful uprising against the regime of Bashar al-Assad.

The independent and non-profit initiative has since supported numerous peaceful projects against dictatorship and terror with the help of more than 3,500 donors.

Activists supported by Adopt a Revolution, for example, ran secular schools countering the influence of Islamist zealots, independent newspapers documenting human rights crimes, civic centers bringing together different ethnic and religious groups to counter hatred, or women’s centers promoting emancipation even in the most conservative corners of the country.

The supporting association for the project is about:change e.V., which is based in Leipzig.

In addition to financial support, Adopt a Revolution tries to establish solidarity between German and Syrian civil society and to transfer knowledge: The aim is to create an exchange of experience between local and Syrian groups that will strengthen Syrian civil society.
